My mess of a garden

Apologies in advance for the state of my garden!

We have had some work done on the house and as a result we have been left with a mess of a garden...OK, I admit it didn't look too great beforehand. I have every intention of sorting it out but I am not very green fingered and apart from cutting it all down I just don't know where to start!

It is not a very large garden but I think there is potential to do something with it. Hopefully the scaffolding will be removed soon and I can give the grass a good cut but I want a bit more colour. I am thinking of going out there this week with the kids and planting some seeds in the pots that are scattered around everywhere.

After clearing away all the rubbish and cutting back the bushes it should seem a bit bigger, although the shed is already packed full of old tat and I do really want to get that emptied as well.
The fence is falling down which leaves the garden exposed to everyone walking past which puts me off sitting out there but hopefully that will be replaced within a few weeks!

Basically I have a lot of work to do! Which is why I am linking up to How does your garden grow with Mammasaurus. I wouldn't want to shame myself by putting photos of the same mess every week so hopefully it will encourage me to pull my finger out and make it look beautiful...or even half decent will do!

I promise next time I will post some prettier pictures, even if I have to go into someone else's garden!
If you have any gardening advice it would be greatly appreciated x

  1. Great idea to force yourself to get a move on. I think you can be forgiven for not going crazy in the garden when you have building work on the go. Good luck. #HDYGG

    1. Thank you Helen, It is quite annoying sitting in a nice new kitchen and looking outside to the same mess everyday!

  3. Ooh, you see a mess, I see potential! I think joining in with this linky is a great idea, as it will spur you on, and I'm always spotting ideas and plants that I want from reading the other posts. If I were you, I'd start with clearing up, then I think planting seeds in all random pots is a fabulous idea, as it'll bring some flashes of colour in - perhaps add a little children's garden area to encourage them to get involved, too? I can see it looking beautiful in no time :)

    1. Thank you, I'm quite lucky that my garden is bigger than all my neighbours and we can actually fit furniture out there so we should make the most of it!

  6. Any building work is always a nightmare to the garden. I would plant some seasonal plants up and put a pretty bench in until you can get the fence in and things cleared.

  7. Like The Reading Residence said in the comments here, look as it as potential - a blank canvas! Happy Homebirds suggestion of a bench and some seasonal plants is a fab start and I think you;d be surprised at what a difference it would make. Gardening is a bit like exercise - hard work but once you start to see the difference it makes you really get into it! Thank you for joining in - looking forward to seeing how you get on :)

  9. Like the fact you are pushing yourself to do something about it! Our garden was a huge mess and this spring has been the time to get some improvements done, and we did exactly what you mentioned, ripped it all out and started again! It's finally starting to look a bit more like a garden again after looking like a junk heap for so long! Good luck with yours, looking forward to seeing some results! xx #hdygg Caroline becomingastayathomemum.com

  13. Your garden apparently needs a little tending, but I understand that gardening can be a dreary job, particularly to those who live a busy lifestyle, what with work and other social activities. Anyway, you could always ask for help if you’re having a hard time maintaining the aesthetic appeal of your garden. Have a nice day!
