My quest for fitness

I decided about a month ago that it was time for me to get fit, partly for health reasons but mostly as I have booked a holiday abroad this year (long overdue) and want to look appropriately dressed.. not covered up in winter clothes! Although I don't think any amount of exercise will get me into a bikini just being able to get into a swimming costume without looking pregnant would be nice.

I wouldn't say I'm overweight but it did dawn on me that I actually weigh more now than I did when I was 9 months pregnant with my first son, although that was 15 years ago!

First to tackle the diet. As someone with a very sweet tooth I thought the first thing to give up would be biscuits, cake and chocolate. I started off well until my children bought me the biggest box of chocolate for mothers day and I'm sure I would've offended them if I didn't eat them all.
I must say I have done well on the biscuit front, usually I can't drink a cup of coffee without dunking but I have shown great willpower and have even started drinking green tea as well!
We have got this new found love for baking in my house and now everyone wants to bake cakes (they would now I've given up eating them) but I've decided that every girl needs a treat once in a while so a small slice here and there isn't going to harm me, is it?

Now for the hard bit, to actually get off my butt and move it! I'm on the move all day, I mean I've got 4 children and I work in a school so I don't know why everyone (including myself) has this perception that I'm lazy. I could happily walk for miles but nobody sees me running, if you do it probably means someone is chasing after me! So to start my exercise plan I've been using the children's Xbox Kinect to do 'zumba' and 'just dance' which is a pretty fun way to work out and the kids can join in with me.
Back to running. I don't know why I find it so difficult, it's the breathing, I seem to get out of breath after 2 mins and have to start walking again but I will conquer it and as I've signed up to do a sponsored run (on my bucket list)  in a couple of months I seem to have left myself no choice.

I'm pleased to say that I've gone from 10st 13lb to 10st 6lb so far and once I get the hang of running the fat should just fall off (here's hoping) and I will get down to my target weight of 9 and a half stone (also on my bucket list)

Another sleepover?

You have children and they take over your life, it's all part of parenthood. Sleepless nights, dirty nappies, cold dinners after spending ages spoon feeding the baby. Then they get bigger, becoming more independent, able to make their own breakfast in the morning and bath themselves at night and lead you to believe you are finally going to get some 'me' time, that is until they make friends!

Don't get me wrong it's very important that your children do have friends, you wouldn't want them to be loners or outcasts and I'm very grateful that all my children have lovely social groups with parents that I'm able to get on with.

This weekend was like many, the daughter had 2 of her friends over for a sleepover and if it's not at my house they will arrange it at one of the other friends house. Both the mums of her friends work in the same school as me (which is the school they attend) and the girls plot with each other in the playground arranging to play after school or sleepover on the weekends and then they put us on the spot!
Now maybe if it was just 1 child it wouldn't be too bad but when there is 4 of them all plotting their social lives it means that I kinda don't have a social life of my own.

It's not just sleepovers but birthday parties! Now these can be even worse. I remember at one point there was a party like EVERY weekend and what type of bad parent would you be if you said 'no you can't go' and everybody else was. Now it's nice to have popular kids that get invited to parties but sometimes they are quite a distance away, sometimes they are fancy dress (which means going to buy a specific outfit for the occasion because I wouldn't know where to start to make one!) And it always means buying a gift. Being as organised as I am this means running around an hour before the party trying to find something appropriate.

Now I've just got to prepare myself to cope with what's coming next, when the children turn into young adults and want to attend house parties or clubs and drink alcohol with the opposite sex... hmmm maybe I don't really mind sleepovers after all!

Lets make a list

I have a thing about lists, I make daily lists and I make monthly lists and instead of having a new years resolution I have a list of things I hope to do/achieve for each new year.

Do you make lists? Do they actually make an improvement in your life?

I like to be reminded of things I need to do otherwise I just couldnt keep up but I do find that they just make me worry about things more, especially as im the biggest procrastinator in the world and im probably just writing this post to get out of something else that I should be doing!

Now im very happy quite content with my life right now and if I were to drop dead tomorrow I would do so knowing that Ive had a decent life and will live on through my children, blah blah blah, but we only get 1 life (unless you believe in reincarnation) and there are so many more things we could do while we're still here, so next on my 'list' is to create a bucket list of things I want to do before I die.
I will post this as a page at the top of my blog so I can be reminded everytime I come on here of what im working towards or already achieved.

Sweet sentiment

Came home from work yesterday, shattered at having to walk the mile and a half home because the car has broke down.. and I've only just put the new tax on it!
Slumped down on the sofa and my daughter tells me I look depressed, "no I'm just tired, can you go to the shop and get some milk for coffee?" I asked her. surprisingly I'm not met with "I'm too tired" "can't Jamal (older brother) do it" or another 'I'm so hard done by' statement.
On her return she brings me a cup of coffee and a big bar of galaxy chocolate telling me she spent her last bit of money on it because she thought I needed cheering up.
My moody teen was obviously in a good mood, it's just a shame I'm on a diet otherwise I would have eaten the whole thing!
Now just to practice that 'depressed' look for the next time I fancy some chocolate...

Why tantrums and glitter?

Well im sure the name speaks for itself! As a mother of 4, one minute were making something glittery or painting our nails with glitter nail polish (not the boys of course) and the next, world war 3 is underway and someone is throwing a tantrum (normally me) basically just your everyday family life experience really.

The reason ive decided to join the blogging community is basically because it seems to be the next thing to do in this ever growing world of technology and I thought it would be rude of me not to join in!
Plus im getting fed up of talking to myself (in my head, not out loud) so I thought I would talk to a computer screen instead... logical really?

This is me!

Im Tracey or sometimes Tracie, but never Tracy! Have to have an 'e'
Im 33 and 3 quarters although I sometimes get mistaken for a teenager.. happening less fequently with the onset of wrinkles and grey hair.

I went from being a teenage mother to the mother of a teen (or 2 to be precise) in the blink of an eye and also have 2 tweenagers (8 and 10) along for the ride.
Most of my blog will probably be about my life as a mother as my life seems to revolve around my children but that is not my only job...

By day I am a Teaching Assistant and an Early Years Educator (basically im always surrounded by children) and I recently signed up to be a Body shop at home consultant, providing pampering parties to the nation (the few that actually allow me to do one) thats my way of escaping the children having some adult time.
I would love to be successful with the Body shop but also have an ambition to become a photographer (I know, everybody does) imparticular I would like to be a nursery photographer because I love working with that age group of children.

Anything else you want to know?
Keep reading and Im sure you will find out a bit more about me...
